Which field grade box do you use? I have a walnut and mahogany box and looking for another wood . Your opinions are appreciated,
I have a Purple Heart over butternut that is awesome.
Won't go wrong with any combo you pick. Give Al a call and he'll help you out.
Purple heart/butternut or maple/cedar
I field grade I have a yellowheart/mineral poplar that thing is a she devel.. High front end with lots of bite on the back end
I've also had kwila/black limba that was a good combo but gave that as a gift
then I have a checkered box from him in paduak/mineral poplar and thats one of my favorites tones down awesome, sounds good loud, everything in between a very real hen and a proven killer in my vest.
Had double digit kills on Easterns this year with a maple/butternut.
Only experience so far has been with a Jatoba lid, limba box and jatoba base premium box. Became my go to call this season and accounted for contributing to several toms killed and a several more that were worked but not killed. May not be much to go on but I plan to have another couple of different woods before next season.
You'll love a mineral poplar box with purpleheart lid and base
Love all 8 that I have, best bet is give Al a call and talk to him.
I have a jatoba over mahogany w/ jatoba base checkered box. She's a BAD girl.
Could do what I did. Just have Al pick one out and send it to you. It's going to be all turkey either way. Wouldn't trade mine for any other. It's been truly something special. Now, if I could find a bird that wasn't three farms away and wants to play a bit more, I'll put a notch on the bottom of the bugger and brag about it some more. :TooFunny:
The only one I have is a leopard wood paddle and base with a mineral poplar box. This wood combo has a nice high front and raspy back end yelp and looks really cool too.
