Turkey hunters here will love this book!!! I did not see the movie-but the book is hard to put down. I don't want to give too much away- but MOBY-DICK is partly based on fact. The whaleship Essex was rammed TWICE by a spermwhale that was estimated to be over 85 feet and over 80 tons! This happened in the pacific ocean in 1820 as these whales were starting to get hard to find. Some researchers believe that spermwhales were reduced in population by 75%. They were fighting back!!
The book goes beyond the sinking and you will be riveted! Other whaleships were also rammed and sunk from 1820-1851 and beyond and others limped back to port. I will list one- the LYDIA was rammed and sunk in 1836. After reading the book- I also found out that researchers think that these whales use sound waves as a weapon to stun badly giant squid as that is there main diet. Get it at walmart.I will repeat for members on Gobbler Nation.
