Had one of PINCH ME hunts with my daughter this past saturday. We moved in on a roosted bird and walked upon a second bird that gobbled at 75 yards pinning us down. We could see him on an open oak limb and had to just sit and not a good setup. I mumbled some not so positive things and my daughter said lets just make the best of it it is what it is. The bird gobbled again WOW not spooked so I got out some calls and birds sounded off all around us. At least 4 birds within 200 yards and going CRAZY! I Tried some easy quiet tree yelps and he answered along with all his friends WILD I TELL YA! Next thing I know he sails over a small pond and pitches 50 yards away in the mowed road we are on but like I said BAD setup no shot until 15 yards. I had told daughter to aim low after an opening day miss with those tight pattern Win LB's 6's. One more set of soft yelps and here he comes and 15 yards he did come HE COULDN'T RESIST LOONIE SNEEDS OUTLAW HEN!. BLAM a nice bird down as she ran to the bird I limped behind and came upon his beard in the grass or what was left of it. No matter celebration was in order. The other birds had quit gobbling and I tried some more calls but no response so some pix and off to show the farmer, house not 150 yards away. While some congrats and laughing daughter says STRUTTER and 3 gobblers are in the side field not 150 yards away. Well off we go back where we had started and farmer tex me and said they are heading our way. I set up in a bottom where the birds were roosted earlier. A soft call (GOOSERBAT 3rd Strike mouthcall) and an answer 75 yards away OH BOY they gobble on their own 50 yards behind some honeysuckle COMING HARD. I throw a call to my left and they cut me off. Gun up they they are 40 yards a call to stop the strutter and 37 yards BLAM #2 down. WOW A bird off the roost in the bed of pickup and now a 2nd tom 15 min after high fiveing the farmer in his yard LOL! I have hunted this farm a couple times a year for 7 years or so and only 2 birds in that time now 2 in same day. I SUCK at calling so either the full moon had them up all nite and hungover or the ladies had them weakminded either way BEST turkey day in a long time. EVERYBODY NEEDS A DAY LIKE THIS ESPECIALLY WITH FAMILY!
PS Son in law took his brother and their kids out same day and doubled up on a longbeard and a jake. Unfortunately the 2 ten year old girls were hesitant to pull the trigger so the dads brought home the meat.
Daughter's: 17-1/2#, beard ? was long LOL, 1-1/8 spurs
Dad's: 18#, 9-3/4" beard, 1-1/4 spurs
Son in law's: 19#, 10" beard, 1-3/16 spurs
