Living here in Oklahoma I can easily take a Rio and an Eastern. Here are a couple of specimens from 2016.
This Eastern was 22# 7oz 10.75 beard and an 1" and a chipped 7/8 spurs.
And the Rio
21# 4oz. 1 1/4 spurs and 7.5 whiskers

These were 5hours apart. Now you can hunt both subspecies only a good hour apart in their natural native range. The kicker is gaining access to property that holds birds. The farther south you go the farther west you'll find Easterns.
