well had my first longbeard xr miss fire today. i called a big tom with in 25-30 yds where he locked up. this is well within range and it was a clear shot well i squeezed off on the round only to have a misfire and between racking another round and the movement i made he bolted. oh well at least he lives another day and i get another day.

Was it the shell or the gun? I had an often miss fire with mine and it turned out to be my 870

it was definitely the shell the primer was hit hard and had a deep mark where the pin hit.this is the first one ive had to do this.
You might take and shoot a box of field loads just to check and make sure, if you haven't already?
Not saying it isn't a bad shell by no means.
Throw some water bottles or pop cans out and have a blast.

Could oil from your gun have saturated the primer causing a misfire?
Opening day tomorrow, using LB's for the first time. The first few went bang during patterning. Shouldn't have to worry about this with shells of this quality. Hopefully the problem is with other factors.
I had the same issue with my 835. Send it back to Mossberg and they will replace the firing pin.
The primer can be hit hard and still not ignite. Had it happen a few times and it was firing pin, not extending all the way. Worn out or dirty. Try the shell again in another gun. And try the other shells of that lot in the gun that didn't fire.

ok folks ive been busy rewiring a couple pumps on one of my boatsnow let me answer some questions for yall.i have fired some field loads through the gun and it has fired fine.i will try to fire a few more of the lb xrs from the same box in a day or 2. i cannot say for 100% what caused the issue but im leaning towards a bad primer as things do happen. i am not saying they are bad shells necessarily but it is aggravating to have happen.i know trying to re fire the shell would help rule out the issue but my 535 is my only 3.5'' gun. i did at one point have a 835 but not anymore i sold it to a co worker.

I had the same thing happen to me opening day...20 yard shot with Longbeard XR....I too had a nice dent in the primer but no boom. I will say that I compared the primer dent on the misfire to another Longbeard XR that did fire through the same gun and the misfire dent was slightly less deep. Not sure if it was the gun/firing pin or the shell, but I have never had a misfire in that gun in 25 years of shooting it.....gun is an 835 shooting 3.5" shells. I have read about a fair number of people who have reported misfires with these shells, I have decided to use other loads.
Had the same thing happen, 835 with Winchester extended range a few years ago except eased another shell in and got the bird. Never had it happen again. I'd say probably a bad primer.
I had this happen to me twice---but I was pheasant hunting. Same thing---the primer was hit and nothing. Both shells were from the same box I just bought.
