Well this was an odd hunt, yet successful.
Started the day with three hot birds that shut up immediately after I climbed 200 yards up the mountain, which is normal for me.
Went to a couple places with no luck, and finally struck two birds that sounded hot across the valley from me. I waited about 10 minutes called again, they gobbled good so I sat down on the ATV to make the 20 min drive to them. About the time I put the key in I looked up and this bird was on a dead run at me in the trail. He stopped about 50 yards from me and stepped over the bank so I hurried up put my mask on and loaded my gun. I stepped off the trail about 15 ft and called again. He came back up to the edge of the vertical hillside and got himself shot in the face. Unfortunately if you shoot a bird in southern WV you have to be an Olympic sprinter as soon as you shoot because if the flop they go all the way to the bottom, which is a long way. So....I didn't get there in time, bird made it to the edge and went about 75 yards and over a rock cliff.
