Went out this morning just to keep my batteries charged as I had taken off the whole week to hunt but was very fortunate to fill my last tag this past Saturday. I just wanted to hear a gobble this morning and hear a gobble I did. I parked at a spot I had taken my oldest son to on youth day but we weren't fortunate to call in a bird that morning so I went back today to see what was happening in this patch of woods. Got out of my truck right as it was just getting enough light to see without a flashlight and I hear a gobble where it should have been on April 2nd, I just grinned and climbed the ridge to my stick blind and proceeded to enjoy the symphony. 30+ minutes of continuous gobbling as I sat there with my head leaning back against the tree soaking it all in. I imagined what he was doing on that limb, facing east then west gobbling and strutting, were there hens with him or is he lonesome? I got my answer at 6:35am, as he let out a gobble I could here the cackle of a hen as she flew down, he had his harem and was announcing to the world "Come and join me!" Things went quiet for a bit then he gobbled on the opposite side of a small hollow that separated us, then the seductive yelps of his harem as they led him on his journey for the day. By 7am I thought they had drifted off but I wanted to be sure before I left so I blew on my crow call and he gobbled directly in front of me, I got anxious as I thought maybe I'll get a glimpse off him but I never did. A little while later some dogs began barking and he gobbled 100 yards further away than he was 20 minutes before. I knew the performance was over so I got up and walked back to my truck and said "Thank you, I needed that"

Great story. Nothing like turkeys in the woods..
Great time in the woods!!
Nice... That's some good medicine right there!!
Awesome story. Just gave me the chills. I actually felt like I was there. May 1st can't come soon enough. I'll be at it for 8 days strait. And if I don't tag a bird but feel like you just did. That's good enough for me.
:cross2:
Yea I've had some great days watching the turkeys after tagging out, whether mushroom hunting or something else it never gets old seeing and hearing them do their thing

Makes for some great therapy.
Reminds me of the old quote, "Sometimes I sit and think, sometimes I just sit."
Woods are naked that are void of turkey gobbling.
Mornings like that make you say it's good to be alive and thank god for turkeys!!
I love hearing those birds in the morning.
That's a good time of enjoying everything there is to offer.
I want to take my boy out this year to experience it.
