Title: Maryland opening day gobbler
Post by: jbmabrey on April 18, 2016, 06:13:49 PM
I shot a 24 lb. gobbler with 9" beard and 1" spurs at 9 am. Called all morning and had no reply. Pulled put my push pin call from Shannon  and after 3 sets of yelps a gobbler answered from about 100 yards away.
Long story short-used Pedersoli 12 ga. SXS muzzleloader-89 gr. of Black mz and nickel plated shot from Ballistics products. 33 yard shot.
I've killed 3 other turkeys with an encore 12 ga. ml shotgun-this is the 1st with the Pedersoli

Congrats man. Wish I could find the courage to use a BP gun to kill a bird but my time has been limited in the past to the point that I sometimes feel handicapped with just a shotgun. Lol. That's a good bird for sure.

Congrats....Marriottsville Muzzle Loaders, located at AGC @ Marriottsville in Baltimore County, Maryland, should also be impressed with your prize --- Since the president of Marriottsville Muzzleloaders {Gary} was impressed when I showed him my 23 pounder, that I bagged with my shotgun in Maryland yesterday at 7 a.m. --- sporting a 10" beard and 1 1/8' spurs.

Nice to see you have time to hunt a little bit.....when you're not building toys and delivering them to kids around the world!

Nice job using to smokepole

RutnStrutn-I have an Encore 12 ga. barrel also-had it with me at the time-I've taken 3 birds in the last 2 years with it-last years Delaware bird was 22 lbs with 3 beards.

Both guns are fun and I feel lucky that this gobbler came so close. The Encore has a Patternmaster anaconda choke.
