Title: my step son got a little redemption this evening.
Post by: turkeyhunter91 on April 16, 2016, 09:58:46 PM
this morning we was set up by 5:30 because i knew the birds would be close. They ended up being about 50 yards behind us up on the hill. When they flew down they flew the other direction but i was able to pull 2 hens from the flock and the toms followed them, well the hens came right up to the decoys but the toms held back about 60 yards. all of a sudden one of the hens flew and the other got nervous but i was able to calm her and get her back to the decoys with a little calling. after she hung around about 5 mins and then she flew up in a tree right above us. well i finally got the toms to come into range and while we was trying to get them to separate so he could shoot the hen flew back down and started leading them off so i told him it was now or never. well he shot and missed. The best part was he asked while they was strutting in and after he shot, why am i shaking so much haha. well we went to a couple different farms and tried till about noon but couldn't get anything to work. so we went back out around 3:30 and set up at a different farm. we hadn't been in the blind long when 3 toms came out about 300 yards away so i went to calling to them and they took off running the other way. well Connor decided to take a nap and i had been doing a little blind calling and about 4:30 i looked down the fence row and spotted some birds coming out, so i tried waking Connor and he opened his eyes but didn't get up so i tried again and that time he got up and 2 of the jakes came up to the decoys but he had to hold off shooting until i could make certain it had a visible beard, after i was certain i told him ok you can shoot, by this time they had started walking away but he was able to make the 35 yards shot with the 20ga.it weighted 13 pound 11 ounces. Congratulations to everyone that harvested and good luck to everyone else, Connor told me he was gonna sleep in tomorrow so me and dad are going after them.
