Title: Kansas taxidermist!
Post by: Trkyhuntr4life on April 15, 2016, 11:12:43 AM
Well, I was fortunate enough to get my first rio this morning!  Was an awesome hunt!  I wI'll include a pic and the story later today.  Right now I'm trying to find a good taxidermist!  Any help is greatly appreciated!  I'm in rooks county so a little north central/ western Kansas would be great!! Thanks!

You might want to consider freezing it, so you'll have more time to find a good one.  I know a couple of good ones in Missouri, but that would be a good drive from where you are.  Of course, you can always ship it frozen.

Congrats on the Rio!

I agree with stinkpickle - I'd freeze and call around your state.  Dab off any visible blood with a moist paper towel, tuck the head under a wing, and freeze the bird without crumpling or putting stress on the tailfeathers.  Once you find a few taxidermists you're interested in, travel to them to check out their work in person.  I have several mounts and the first two I had done are of poor quality because I didn't do my research.
