Went to an area where I saw some birds run from me last week while scouting. Crawled into my blind made of sticks and small logs and calmly sat in a light sprinkle until 7:30. Not even a peep, so I decided that I would call a few times. I clucked pretty loud maybe 5-6 times and at about 150 yds. I saw a black blob pop up over little rise. I clucked a few more times and he slowly made his way to me never making a sound. He was 20 pounds and had a 10" beard. Even though he strutted most of the way to me his wings were barely worn down. Maybe that is a sign that it will get better and they will get more vocal. Anyway, a good day even though I had to get up a 3:30 and drive about an hour and a half. Good luck to all.
Sounds like a great bird, congrats!! :icon_thumright:
