Title: Tuff Texas Hunt
Post by: Yelper on April 09, 2016, 08:55:42 AM
Was in Gatesville, TX last weekend and had a hard time getting on some long beards, only saw 2 turkey with beards on the 900 acres I was hunting. Did manage to call in 20+ jakes, something that was unlike anything I have ever experienced in TX. Was able to get this one to come in around 10 am Sunday morning. Took another smaller bird with double beards, a 6 in and a 5 1/2 inch beard. Almost all birds responded well to the Platz glass call and my Mouth call.
This one had a 10 1/2 inch beard, 1 inch spurs and 22 lbs.

Tuff with 2 f's, that's the way way to be.  Nice bird.  Next year should be real good with that many jakes.

I will move on from that property to the pan handle next year. Another odd thing was I only saw 1 hen in 3 days on the property, which is the reason I think the mature birds were not there. It was a jake paradise, they would gobble all the way to my lap and then hang around.  :gobble:
