for the guys that installed a saddle mount and red dot do you find the the scope height is too high? I installed a weaver saddle mount and Bushnell red dot on an 870. Even with the ATI stock cheek piece as high as it can go the scope is still too high to get a good cheek weld on the stock and still be lined up properly with the scope.
Do you guys deal with it (the height) or have you had the receiver drilled and tapped for a direct mount rail to lower the scope height?
I've got saddle mounts on two of my 11/87's with red dots. I don't have any trouble with the optics being too high. We are not shooting precision rifles here where your cheek weld would be critical. The red dots are zero parallax, so just make sure that dot is on the birds head and dust em!
I just installed a red dot scope on my Winchester SX3 and felt that the scope was too high. I bought this cheek pad and now my eye lines up perfect.

I had my 1187 drilled and tapped. I put a mesa tactical picatinney on it along with a aimpoint micro t2 with a larue low mount(package deal through larue tactical). it is so low that I can see the front sight on the end of the barrel. i am extremely happy with it
thanks guys good replies all. thinking I might make do as is for now but eventually drill and tap the receiver.
I've got the B-square saddle mount on both my 870 Supermagnum and 870 Synthetic Youth. The Supermagnum has a Tasco Pro Point (multi-reticle) and the Youth has a Burris FF III. Neither have height problems, even with my grandsons (9 & 12) shooting the Youth model.
