Title: Carrying decoys?
Post by: wislnwings on March 28, 2016, 08:32:13 PM
How do you carry your decoys afield?  I'm using an Avian jake and hen and looking for a better option than the two bags they came in.

I use DSD's and when I'm running and gunning my hen and jake fit in just the one bag... Do you deflate your decoys every time you move?

Been leaving them inflated to be able to deploy them quickly.

Hands down, best decoy bag I've ever used! Will carry a PAIR of full bodied DSD's placed nose to tail.
Fantastic deal at this price!

Two hens or jake & hen?

With multiple decoys in one bag, do you all worry about scuffing the paint?  I have a DSD hen and Avian Jake, and at about $100 per decoy, I am not eager to scuff them up.

Slotted goose decoy bags are made from 4-12 decoys...

There are a number of bags made to hold multiple decoys in a bag for duck hunting:

Personally, I use two decoys if I use any...  I twist the straps together and carry the two decoys in separate bags...  From waterfowl hunting, I know that decoys rubbing together will scuff and wear much more quickly, so I would either use a slotted bag, or separate bags...

Mentor a kid, they can carry one. I personally never use one except sometimes in a initial set up. Never once I move

I put my DSD's in pillow case's and then in my larger decoy bag. Seems to be working well.

I carry either 1 avian x hen or an old feather flex hen. Fold it up and in the back of my vest it goes. Agile and mobile is my motto.

Not meant in a negative way at all, but if it doesn't easily fit in my vest I don't carry it. Even then, I usually don't carry one, but that's a personal preference.

Friend of mine's wife made a huge possible bag years ago. Made it for him so he could carry a sack full of corn in to his deer stand.  It was a long strap that fits over the neck and one arm and is very comfortable to carry. I told him I liked it and she sowed me one.  Fits 2 dekes and stakes. And a water bottle. And an umbrella too if it looks like rain (one of those tree half umbrellas).  That has been sitting beside me on many a successful turkey hunt.  And many not so successful too I guess.  :funnyturkey:

That was my original reason for getting a turkey vest. I don't use a decoy very often, but when I do It's a single hen and she rides in my vest.

Thank you Lord that this is a problem I don't have.

I bag my hen decoy and then if you bag your jake head first and the drop the hen in tail first they will fit in the same bag. This is for DSD's, it works with the bags that are supplied with the decoys.
