Title: drill and tap or vent rib cantilever for O/U turkey gun optics ?
Post by: SnapT on March 25, 2016, 10:39:48 PM
As the title implies  ,would you go with a vent rib cantilever mount or drill and tap an O/U for a turkey gun?
I'm awaiting a TriStar Hunter mag camo and currently have a Bushnell trs-25 in a drawer but need a mount . Plan on going with a vortex venom or FF III down the road but for now I would need a mount for the trs .    Any experience with either on an O/U gun ???

cheers

I wouldn't tap it if you plan to have another turkey gun in the future.  If you're going to dedicate that one, and have no care about resale or weather or not it is, go for it.  The new Vortex's seem to be quite nice.  Around here though, and rightfully so  because they have proven themselves, you'll get a lot of love for the FFIII

Thanks .  I just don't know enough to know if its viable to drill and tap an O/U lol .
It's a TriStar Hunter 3 1/2 mag camo so definitely a dedicated turkey gun .
If I'm told I can't drill and tap then a vent rib cantilever mount will be the route I go .
I have a Bushnell trs-25 in my desk but eventually I'd like the FFIII or the Vortex Venom .

cheers

Bring her into your local gun shop.  Ask if they think you can or if they recommend any particular gunsmith that would be able to tell you.  It should be fairly inexpensive.

Thanks .   I've been told "no it cant be don't" by one and two who said yes it can (one asked how wide the vent rib was) .
So to say I'm confused is an understatement lol .
