Title: Top of list calls for your collections
Post by: MattinIdaho on March 21, 2016, 04:49:20 PM
Just wondering what some of your most coveted calls are. Basically I'm just looking for some names of some the better call makers that I haven't heard of. Both pot and box. I love to play nice calls that are high quality.

Haven't bought most of them yet. But my list I clues the following.
Shaffer atomic 13.
Loftis crystal screamer.
Perfection screamin demon.
Pure death pinnacle.
Lonzo glass acrylic.
Shaffer mad hen two.
Halloran sugar town sweetness.
Halloran twisted sister.
Mike yingling copper. Have more on the list but that's what comes off the top of my head.

Well, I didn't really have a list. Having said that, everything in my vest got replaced this year. It looks like this:

Yingling crystal
Yingling aluminum
Yingling copper
Halloran crystal mistress
Lonnie Mabry box call
SS custom box on the way
McKinnis deluxe limited box call
McKinnis long slate
McKinnis cherry pot slate (doesn't make pot calls anymore and it's a shame)
2 Tucker Ridge (Jeff "lumberjack" Jones) tube calls
Tucker Ridge cedar trumpet
Yingling tube
SS custom scratch box

I'll have some decisions to make as I'm obviously not going to carry all of this stuff but right now, I feel like a kid that was turned loose in a candy shop. Not much of a wish list as I'm not a call collector by any means. My pure intentions were to buy good calls that sounded great and I could see myself hunting with. The Halloran was bought for me by a close friend and that's really what sparked all of this. If I had to make a list right now it's probably be a relatively short one compared to others.

Would like:
John Sinclair yellowheart slate (one he just posted yesterday)
Yingling titanium
A good ceramic pot call. Not sure what jus yet, but a good one.

I am for sure going back to buying a call every year from the DD Adams and the Gibson winners.
But there are just so many good callmakers that I never hear about.
One that jumps out at me that I just picked up is a Tim Clayton glass pot.
I had no idea what I was getting when I got that. That call is soooooo consistantly good sounding it's incredible.
I'd highly recommend one of his calls to anyone.
And for a box, I picked up a Robert Bunger cedar box with walnut top and bottom on ebay that just rocks. Again, a call maker I wasn't familiar with but had a call that is just fantastic. It's a great running box.

Schaefer Mad Hen 2
Dad's purpleheart over cedar
Are the two I won't leave home without. I buy calls to hunt them but I also like building a collection at the same time.
Also, have an SS walnut over cedar and a halloran jatoba over box elder coming. And I really want to get my hands on a box from Mr. Lamar Williams some day

Some guys are gonna laugh but... First call in my vest every year is the first call I ever bought on 1992. Q/
B  Grand Old Master. Then I carry 2 customs, usually my Watkins short box and one from Steve Mann. Pot calls... One from A&J and another from Lights Out. Yes... It's a full vest
