Hated wearing those bulky turkey vest, year after year. The last I had fit like an ill fitting wedding dress. Anyway, I bought one of those tom teaser quick sacks. Arkansas season hasn't opened yet, but it has already lightened my hunting load by about half. Unfortunately my man card went missing in the process
I have been eying them closely. Beside the fact that your man card is gone, do you like the pocket layout?

I hate wearing a vest and only do if I plan on being away from the truck all day. Dont tell anyone but looking pretty hard at something like this to carry water snacks ect in
I too have eyeballed the turkey "murse" (man purse, or satchel if you're inclined to be macho about it) for the short hunts. Just throw a few calls into it and go. But I've got to have a best for the days that I hunt the club. No way a round that. I hunt it with a buddy of mine and when we go, were gone. I used to be of the thought that if the bird doesn't want to gobble, I'll go home. He's of the school that if they're not gobbling, let's find one that will. We used to hunt together but now we split up and go different directions in hopes of either both tagging one or at least finding a spot for the next morning. I don't particularly care for the idea of having that strap digging into my shoulder all day for however many miles we my cover. Having said that, hunting around my current location, I could definitely get into one of the smaller bags.
Cool, I'll bet after you carry it a couple times you'll really like it. We just have to be secure enough in our manhood not to let a little thing like carrying a purse bother us. ;)

I just take a slate, three Mouthcalls shells and gun. Seems to work fine and even better I get to keep my man card. I do have a vest for all day jaunts just so I can take water food and other calls to play with throughout the day.

Maybe if they'd call them "European turkey man bags"..................

I think you'll be alright unless you start taking it out to dinner or start trying to match your belt and boots to the purse. :TooFunny:
So far I like it. I use to bring every blessed call I had on a hunt and load down a vest to capacity. With this it actually restricts how many calls you can bring, which I like. The shoulder strap doesn't dig too bad if it isn't loaded down which was one of my hesitations. I keep my favorite 3 strikers, 2 pots, 2 scratchers, 1 box, 3 mouth calls, bino's, range finder, 4 shells, branch sheers and thermacell. That on your side with a waist strap butt pad isn't a terrible load to cover some miles with. So far I'm liking the change :icon_thumright:
Isn't that what Bruce Jenner said? Now seriously, the ountain men carried a possible bag and I really don't see much difference between the two. Still is fun to pick on people n over tho.
I'm gonna give a back pack with some turkey pockets added to the waist belt

I've been carrying a Brossie bag for a few years now, and added one of these strap pads to aid in the comfort on my shoulder. :you_rock:

I started carrying what was sold as a shell bag about fifteen years ago during deer season. It has one main compartment with two outside pockets, the flap covers all three pockets and buckles shut. I use it all the time now. Scouting, deer hunting, turkey, small game, I love it.
I took some ribbing when I first got it, but It's so handy who cares. And on the first cold rainy day in deer season when I pulled out a dry pair of gloves, a sandwich and a soda in front of my buddys and you could see the envy in their eyes, it was worth the original chop busting. ;D

I definitely see the advantages to carry extra stuff. I just always preferred to have a more streamlined approach and having a vest does that in my mind. I like having stuff separated in pockets so it's not all clinking around . I prefer a full vest and carry a decent assortment of calls. I think it's just a different aproach to the same goal. I feel a bag is more cumbersome than a vest but that's just my opinion.
I bought one too. I hope it works as well as I want it too!
I hunt out of a small Badlands backpack/daypack. I hunt some rugged public ground and it just suits me. I hate vests, although they seem very convenient for flat ground hunting, but Ill never wear one.

I've been using a Beard Buster Gear Hog for a couple years now and I really like it. I like that it clips onto my blind bag, but it also has a shoulder strap that you can use to carry it.
I've actually been thinking about getting one for deer hunting (hate switching all my stuff back and fourth depending on the season) to replace my waist pack I usually take to the stand.
Hey, some guys wear panty hose for chiggers...Why not a purse too?
I will take the hit to the pride, when I have granola bars and water to keep me hunting all day ????
We used old women's purses for black powder for decades , thier perfect
I use a duck hunting blind bag for my push pins
Duck hunting blind bag is code for :purse
Pockets on the Tom Sack don't work for me...I use a vest or backpack...

I like my vest but there are days I want to crawl out of it and all its gear! I don't know if I could live down the ribbing from my buddies over a purse, but I have thought of a fanny pack :TooFunny:
Uh.... in my book a fanny pack isn't any more manly. But if it works for you then that's the main thing.

Lol I was afraid of that
I tried a fanny pack once, felt like I was missing something... The socks and sandals! :TooFunny:

I have a Primos Gobbler seat? It has the bag and the cushion on it. I like it as well because I can put extra clothes or stuff in it and it carries like a backpack.
I love my Brossie bag. When I want to cover some ground, that's what I take. Really it carries more than one probably needs.
Terry I agree! I got mine with the hopes to restrict the amount of calls I bring. I find that the less I bring, sometimes the better the outcome of the hunt. Call wise that is :icon_thumright:

That is one of the big benefits I found switching away from a vest. When I had a vest with big pockets I tended to throw everything but the kitchen sink at them.
The initial impetus to switch off a vest came in 2002. I had 200 acres to hunt for the first time, and it was all knife-edged ridges. I found myself going up and down all day. I needed to lighten the load.
What I came up with was this:
It's called a Messenger Bag. You can still find them on Amazon for under $20.
It definitely lightened the load. 15 seasons later, I still can't find anything better.
It changed my style. I had previously moved from call to call trying to get a positive response. This focused my attention. I was now carrying fewer calls. Therefore, I was trying harder to make each call count. It also got me aware that it was better to rotate my calls throughout the season. By changing up my selection, I continued to sound fresh. Instead of three box calls every day, I was using one box and then switching it out for another the next day if I did not get a positive response.
The result? That year, I bagged a record book gobbler on my 5th day of hunting.

For those of you that have used the Brossie bags for a while, how do they hold up? I checked them out online and I like the looks of them, but unless I missed it I didn't see where they mentioned what material they are made of. If my old canvas bag gives out before I do, I'd be tempted to get one.

I've had mine for two years without any issues. Seems to be a quality piece.
I say as long as its a camo satchel you get to keep your man card...Having said that I wouldn't feel like I'm turkey hunting if I wasn't wearing my vest..
I'm gonna give a backpack a go this year, I got a few call specific pockets that can be added or removed depending on what i want to carry. backpack will carry things like water, coffee, layers or rain gear, as well as can be used to strap on a turkey chair or a single decoy while still being hands free. pack can handle gear better than a vest and I can still have calls at my finger tips on the waist belt. I think the pack will be better for covering distance and boy can i cover distance. Sometimes a quick morning hunt means being 2+ miles deep before dawn even cracks hunting an hour after fly down and just about jogging out of the woods to get to work.

I want one, but right now I can't find one with matching high heel snake boots!
I use a side bag when it is hot. If it were not camo and filled with very macho items like knives and turkey calls and such, it would be called a fanny pack! :z-guntootsmiley:

Was rereading this...Just to clarify..."fit like an ill fitting wedding dress..." How did you know that? I mean, I'm curious
