Title: Choke tube ports full of plastic
Post by: Ohio river tom on March 17, 2016, 11:25:10 AM
Got a new mossberg 535 turkey gun with a XX full x factor choke. When i shoot my turkey shells ...i see plastic all in the ports of the choke. My question is.. is my choke to tight for the load size or is something wrong with my gun ? Just starting into shooting turkey guns. Always hunted with a single shot 12 h&r as a kid.
My shells are 3 1/2 inch 2 3/8 ounce #6 . My choke tube is .670 XX full x factor. My shotgun 535 mossberg .
Thanks for any help.

It's normal.  The pattern should tell you whether or not the choke is too tight.

The purpose of the ports are to strip the wad away from the shot. The plastic debris present is evidence of it working as designed.

Ok thank you. I have not shot much choke tubes. I am a disabled veteran now. The help from the good lord I got home. The V.A gave me 100% so now I can afford a up grade from a old single shot. Thank you again for your help. Good luck hunting and God bless.

Nope that is normal, This can and will effect your patterns. Just be sure to clean those choke tubes really well, keep pipe cleaners handy for those ports!

Thanks for your service and hit us up anytime for questions.

I've seen kicks choke ports get pretty clogged with material. I think they're one of the most aggressive with the angle of their ports
