How's the turkey population out there this year? I'm heading to Grundy County the second week of the season...hoping to bring home a couple Eastern studs. I can't wait...always wanted to hunt Missouri.
Hunted north of Trenton 20 + years population is way down but appear to be rebounding a bit ,at least some more young turkey were seen this year. A friend lived there all his life said there were more before the stocking program in the early 80's. Gave up leases and went elsewhere. Of course didn't hunt the whole county but spots I hunted used to be loaded .
Can't speak for Grundy County, but it kind of depends on where you are coming from as to how impressed you will be with the population. Granted, Missouri is well below it's population of the 80's--particularly in the northern counties, Missouri is going to have more birds in a bad year than many states will have in a good year.
The last several years. The population has been rebounding. If we have a good hatch this Spring, we should be in good shape, relatively speaking.
