This will be my 3rd season turkey hunting relatively new. I've noticed a few folks who build pot calls using expensive wood, rare, burled and some wood that have synthetic materials in with different fancy colors. Does it make a difference in the sound is it really worth the extra money? Thanks in advice
Exotics are nice, but a good walnut or cherry pot will kill any gobbler out there.
I'll take a walnut glass pot all day long for hunting....but I do like to look at some of the other pots that have the fancy wood.

Exotics are nice but not necessity. There are some great sounding exotic calls out there and I think about every callmaker uses them to some extent, including me. For example, Purpleheart is an exotic that is used extensively for paddles on box calls. It's all about preference.
As the saying goes "purdy don't kill turkeys".

Well said, with maple, mahogany and cedar in the next tier.
I always say "I don't pick pretty, I pick performance" with that said... some people pick out some calls because they like the look of them. I run every call (other than mouth calls) before I buy, in my head I have a certain way I like calls to play.
Don't think that you have to spend the $$$ on a fancy call to kill birds, I have used a number of "cheap" calls and killed birds for me, now there may be a point in your turkey hunting career that you decide you want a certain call for what ever the reason and that's great, go with it have some fun!

Maybe it's just me, but I like the clear sound I get from stabilized wood and other hard woods...
Same for strikers...
I can test my calls over and over, and seem to end up using the same calls each year...
A good example for me is ceramic...I much prefer it in a stabilized wood...don't like the sound in many softer woods...

You know, Pot Calls are not very expensive to start with. Is spending $20 more for a really nice looking
Exotic wood or really cool looking stabilized Spalted maple call really gonna break someone. Some of the exotics and stabilized calls have a really different sound, sometimes a different sound is what it takes to get a bird fired up.
Walnut/Glass calls sound great, but almost every Hunter in the woods has one. For me, I think the
Cost is worth it. If I have a choice, I'm gonna take a pretty girl to the dance.

Amen Mr. Bob.... but if the sound is there then I will go for the pretty call with a great sound but sound is always first.
