Hey guys I have exactly One month today to get ready for season opener here in PA and then its on to NY. Tomorrow I am fitting my gun with a Burris Fast Fire II sight and want to pick up ammo for patterning. I just added the sureshot stock and had my gun drilled and tapped
I have the 870 pump in 3" chamber 21" barrel with .665 Jellyhead choke
Where should I start at, I know i need to try different load because all guns shoot a bit different but I should probably limit myself to choosing 3. what are the top three shells and size shot that I should try, and whats a respectable number I should look to achieve during patterning inside 10" at 40yds
Thanks
Nate
Hevi 7's
I have the same gun and barrel length, with the 665 Jelly head mine did around 220 with the hevi 7s and around 150 with the magblends.
The 3 I would try are the 3.5" 2 1/4 oz of #6 and #7 from HeviShot and the Winchester Xtended Range 3.5" 2 oz #6. You will get great numbers and then you can choose which you like the best.
If you don't want 3.5" shells, shoot the same thing in 3" 2 oz loads from Hevi. I don't know what the WinXR is in the 3" load
i would shoot 3.5"s but it would require a new shotgun, so ill stick with the 2oz 3in shells.
my plan was the hevi magblend, hevi #7, and nitros in something

If you can get Nitros then don't screw around with anything else. Save your money and go straight for them. You can count numbers all day, but you won't beat the Nitros unless you hand load! Trust me, been there, done that and got the t-shirt!
The way you shoot, 800 in a 10" circle wouldn't be enough!

 I believe he said he had a 3" gun when he asked about ammo

x2 :agreed:
holly ba geez I just looked at the price for Nitro ammo that stuff aint kidding around is it
I'd recommend the 3" Hevi-13 "Bronze" shells with 2 oz. of #6 or #7 shot. Either should work very well with your gun and choke.
Thanks,
Clark
With that short barrel, I'd recommed trading that Jellyhead .665 for a .660.
