The HW's aren't recommend to use with a ported choke. Of the two, the HW's are a loaded with a vastly superior shot.

Excuse my ignorance on the subject but why is the hw not recommended for ported tubes? What would happen if you shot them through a ported choke?

The wad used is designed to keep the shot together in flight, most loads do better with the wad stripped. Nothing bad would happen if you shot it through your choke. Some folks have reported decent patterns doing so.

I will stick with hevi shot. Better up close pattern at 20 yards than the longbeards and still plenty to kill at 40. That and they hit hard!

Personally I say 6s due to choke being used. They problem with lead was pattern density but all that changed with longbeard. I promise those 6s will have plenty of energy and pattern density to effectively kill at 40 yards. HW 7 is a beast but why buy a choke just to shoot them keep what you got and happy hunting.

Here too! Fer giggles, you might try the Turkey Thug's 3"x5 or 6's. Less than a buck a round. They're what I use and they kill roosters... :camohat:

I say all this from being on both sides of the fence I was an old federal 3-2-7.5 guy for along time killed a lot of birds with them then discontinued, so I decided bigger and better went to nitro got it in my mind I couldn't hunt unless I was cramming H517 4x5x7 in my gun killed alot with them too, then some things changed and patterns started falling off. I then discovered long beards these things are simply amazing they are affordable and they pattern great bottom line is dead is dead not a bird alive that can soak up a good pattern of 6s at 40 yards heck I wish Winchester would bring them out in 7.5s. I can promise you one thing let these ammo companys sit on these $30+ a box of 5 shell for a while and prices will drop.
