Title: new gun
Post by: Farmboy27 on March 01, 2016, 06:41:31 PM
So I'm in the market for a new turkey gun.  Any one have any experience with the Browning Silver?  How about the newer 935's?  I had a 935 the first year they came out but it had cycling problems.  I would rather have a gun with a vent rib and 24" or less barrel.

If I were you I would get a benelli. Sorry I couldn't resist. I do have an original SBE and it has been issue free for 15 years. Sorry to hear about your troubles in the other post.

Yes I do have a a silver hunter
And tickled with it. It comes with a full strut tube
3 1/2" longbeard  it's bad " that's good "  lol I bought a ic 665
And a Jeb 650 to see what's what.jeb with mag blends were
Awesome not with lbs. The ic shot as good as full strut with lbs. That was more economical for me I am keeping the ic . If you get one i hope u enjoy

This one might be what you are looking for minus the vent rib. Mine should be in tomorrow!

Your looking for an auto, it sounds like. Must be a 3.5 inch gun? I've got a 935 that is a dedicated turkey gun, and haven't had any issues with it. The Browning is a very nice gun, mine is an older A5 that performs flawlessly. If I was looking for an "upper end" turkey gun - the Winchester Coyote model would be one, the other is the Berreta AL-390, it's a 3 inch gun. Or the 391, it's a 3.5.

Dang!  I must be too picky, lol!  Went gun shopping today and just cant find anything that suits me.  What ever happened to the days of a regular 21-24" vent rib barrel with beads?  Now my wife is concerned.  I went gun shopping and came home empty handed.  She's convinced I must be really sick!!!

You make a good point, it is tough to find a 21-24" barrel , 3.5" , high quality autoloader that doesn't have a cantilever scope mount.

Not to offend anyone that owns one, (I do myself), but the Stoeger 3500 comes in camo and 24" vent rib models.   I also own a Super Black Eagle...and I'll be the first to admit it is not the quality of the SBE.   With a $ 65.00 trigger job the 3500 is a formidable turkey gun...mine is Realtree APG in 24" barrel with Tru Glo Magnum Gobble Stopper Sights.  Had a Red Dot on it last season.   It feels a little 2" x 6" like compared to the Benelli.   I also owned a new 935 Turkey and liked it...it's a little front heavy and probably not as good all around gun as the Stoeger, which I hunted waterfowl and upland game with also.

You could probably buy a Stoeger 3500 and a Mossberg 935 for less than the Benelli SBE II is worth!

I still think I would like a Winchester SX2 24" turkey gun if I could find one like new....

Good luck in your search!
