Post by: hawk on March 01, 2016, 10:30:48 AM
Has anyone shot LB's or Thug 6's thru a SSX choke

In my current 870 using the SSX and LB 3.5 #5's is bad medicine for birds.

I can say one thing. Regardless of what gun or choke you shoot Thugs are not even on the same playing field as Lb'S. Junk in my opinion. And I have shots hundreds of them to compare.

Possibly a dumb question but what is your constriction on the ssx? I guess I could look it up but I'm being lazy. I shoot an ssx in my 535, it's .643.

LB has no equal in lead load....most other shells their pattern in #6 looks like LB #4....great core density and more range....what's not to love???? And at half the price.

I shot the LB 3" 1.75 6's over the weekend out of my 535 T T edition with quite pleasing results. 212 in the 10 at 40 through a Kicks GT .655, it was 62* outside with very little wind. Only "concern" was the lack of the 20...almost no pattern. My go to load hevi 3" 2oz 7's puts up 220's consistently out of an SSX tube but has a great 20 pattern. Shot the LB's multiple times with the lowest at 193 and highest being the 212.

Have SSX .643 for my 870 and going to try Hevi 13 3/2/6's and 3/2/7's. Should shoot ok considering that it holds the world record with the Hevi 13 3" 2 ounce load.  Like those odds of getting decent patterns. I have found that I am able to turn 200+ out of several chokes I have tried in the .655 to .665 range with Win Lb 6's. Kicks, Ventilator, Indian Creek, Hevi 13 Choke etc..just don't care for softball size patterns at 20yds. To each his own.
