Title: Chokes for the Federal Heavyweight #7
Post by: kyturkeyhunter4 on February 29, 2016, 10:18:54 AM
I've got a Stoeger M3500 and this year I'm going to switch from the Winchester LongBeards to the federal heavyweight #7 shot. Any of you guys know what would be the best choke to shoot the Federals heavyweight out of. I've heard Trulock makes one just for them and Pure Gold makes one called the tempest for them. Just thought I would ask every ones opinion on this.

I would definitely at least call and talk to William at sumtoy. he will have or make one that will work for the pattern you want to achieve. he even will swap out chokes to get you satisfied. I have one for my 20 and my 12.

I tried a handfull of chokes trying to get the Heviweights to pattern. I ended up going with the Choke made by George Truelock. I have 3 of them now.
My 3' 11-87 sps-t with the 21" barrel will do 180ish in the 10 @ 40. And my 3.5 guns will put up 210 in the 10 @ 40.

I heard Trulock made a good one for the federal heavyweights, I'm leaning toward it. Might give sumtoy a call.

I Have run both the Trulock and the Sumtoy with the Fed 7s.. The Sumtoy has a ton of cuts and blocks in the tube and it dirtied quickly with wad debri.. I stuck with the Trulock, actually just bought another. They both patterned almost identical out of my SBEII.

That's a finicky load and you have a very narrow bored gun w the Stoeger.

I'd try Sumtoy, Trulock and Carlsons but I'll be very surprised if you can get it to shoot over 190 pellets in the 10" at 40.  It's just a tough load achieve good patterns with to due to the inflexibility of the Flight Control Wad.
