Anybody ever hunted around the meadville area in MS? I'm planning a hunt there for opening week and just wondering what to expect.
private or public ????
It'll be private land and national forest
If you have decent timber you will have birds. Normally you'll hear something on the limb if the weather is fair.
Be prepared for people.
Take me with you please!!!!

yep , hunt there a lot. you will see people and most likely hear about 30 owls . there are a good number of birds , but they are not easy. you kill one , more than likely you are really gonna have to work . also they will most likely be henned up at that time. stay patient , call soft and add more patients. good luck to you.

thanks for the info guys thats what i expected but any hunting is better than not hunting at all
Beat a guy to his spot one morning....it was funny....they slowed down when they saw my truck then spun gravel going on down the road...apparently they didn't like my intrusion...because the bird only gobbled twice and they either shot him off the limb or just shot to shut him up....prideful...gluttonous idiots.

There are some like that in that area and then there are the days when you run into some of the most pleasant people on earth. Even the good ones will sometimes unintentionally ruin your hunt; I have probably unintentionally ruined theirs. It goes with the territory.

I cant say about the private but the public land there can be extremely competitive.. be there well before daylight and when he gobbles get there as quick as you can.. in my experience ive always heard multiple birds hunting up there tho
