Title: sx3 long beard
Post by: dblake82 on February 27, 2016, 03:29:28 PM
I got a new sx3 long beard its a sweet gun. Took it out today and tried 3" and 31/2" LB #6's with the factory choke. I wasn't very impressed, 147 shot in 10" circle @ 40 yards. Im not sure what constriction the factory choke is. I was thinking about trying a I.C. .665. Does anyone have any experience with this gun,or have any suggestions?

Thanks

I would try the IC  .665 or .675 with the LB #6's should be easy around 200 in the 10".  Also would try Hevi-13 #7's

Deep clean your barell too before you start shooting. It helped my Browning Gold a ton. Pulling a bore snake makes it look shinny and clean,  but when you deep clean you will see just what the "snake" is leaving behind.

If it's the same factory choke that came with my sxp, it's a .700. I have a carlsons .665 in my sxp and last week I had 220 in the 10 and 49 in the head and neck at 40. That's with the same longbeards. 3 1/2" 2 oz #6

Congratulations on your new gun. It's a winner.

The "X-Full" Invector+ choke that normally comes with that gun is very open, about a  .690-.700 depending.

Good advice on the "deep cleaning". It really makes a difference.

The Indian Creek .655 also does well with the WLB #6 shot shells http://allaboutshooting.com/products/12-gauge-invector-plus-indian-creek-turkey-choke-655 as does the JEB'S .650 http://allaboutshooting.com/products/jebs-12-gauge-turkey-choke-invector and the SSX with a .643 e.d. http://allaboutshooting.com/products/ssx-12-gauge-invector also does very well with those shells. Lots of choices for good patterns with your SX3.

Lastly, many times I see the 3" shells turning in more even/dense patterns than the 3.5" but you'll be able to see which works best in yours at the range.

I hope that helps some.

Thanks,
Clark

My dad bought the SX3 Longbeard last year and it is bad to the bone. He put a burris FF3 on it and he loves it. Has a SumToy choke in it and consistently puts 250+ in the 10 ring at 40yds with Longbeard XR 2oz. #6. Best I have seen it do was 255. SX3 Longbeard plus Longbeard XR shells and Sumtoy Choke = Turkey Dont Have A Chance. Good Luck!!!
