Title: Winchester SX3 NWTF and thinking about new sight. Need opinions
Post by: lunghit on February 23, 2016, 10:25:30 AM
Hey fellas I am thinking of adding a Winchester NWTF SX3 gun to my collection and might want to try a red dot sight. I know nothing about these sights so I can use some opinions on what you feel is best. Also with this gun will I need any special mounting brackets for this sight? One last question, if I do not like the red dot sight can I use the sights the gun comes with the gun or does the cantilever scope mount get int the way? I would like to keep the cost around $200. Thanks in advance.

This was the most popular "dot" sight at the recent NWTF Convention & Sport Show in Nashville http://www.truglo.com/optics-red-dots/tru-tec-20mm-red-dot-sight.asp?catid=52E3D7409570433EBF69FA2CBEB51CA6
It's very small & light but as sturdy as any dot sight I've seen. It's loaded with features, exceptionally long battery life, tap on feature, programmable auto-off and list goes on and on. Take a look at all of the pictures. It comes with 2 bases, high and low and the mount is included. We had them for $160.00 and folks who had the FFII & FFIII were buying them. It's one I'd truly recommend.

Thanks,
Clark

Vortex venom. Very similar to the burris fastfire3 but with many more intensity settings.  It also shares the same footprint as the burris so the burris protector and aditional bases will fit it.

Thanks for all the recommendations so far and I will look into each of them. There is no issue to these sights holding up to the recoil of turkey loads?

I put a TRS-25 on my sxp and absolutely love it. Used it for the first time today and it adjusted easy and I can shoot with both eyes open. Under $100 on amazon too.

I cant verify the others, but the burris is quite durable.  Ive shot hundreds of 3.5 inch shells out of my sbe2 with the burris on with no issues at all.  The burris is a good sight but I still recommend the Vortex for the ability to have more intensity settings.  It may seem a small issue, but having only three settings like on the buris does not cover different lighting situations that occur while hunting and so I think the Vortex may be a better option.  Vortex is well known for their customer service, so if I were to do it again I would look at the vortex.

I just sold my SX#3 NWTF 20 gauge Cantilever shotgun and I originally mounted a Burris FastFire 3 on it.  It can take a pounding all day long.  Just make sure you get the one with the Picatinny mount.  And yes, you can still use the factory sights as they are visible above the cantilever.
