Title: JEBS 20 gauge choke
Post by: Fieldturkey on February 21, 2016, 11:50:16 AM
I see a lot of talk about the JEBS in the 12 gauge but not much in the 20. Anybody having any luck with JEBS and HW 7s?

I went thru several chokes in my M2 last year with HWT 7s before I settled on a JEBS .570 non-ported.
I also have a JEBS .560 in my SA-459 shooting TSS 9s..
JEBS chokes are the ticket for me. The quality is in the product and the customer service is second to none.

Roost, did you notice the tighter constrictions blowing the Heavy 7 patterns out? Their website says they recommend 555 but my experience makes me question that tight of a choke. I'm thinking start at 560

I just picked up a H/H .565 mobil choke, was going to get the .555 but I was worried about too tight of a constriction.  It looks like a very well made choke (should be for the $$).  Haven't had a chance to pattern it yet, down with the flu...  ::)

Shot my 870 youth 21" bbl 20 gauge with a JEBS .560 non-ported choke with Fed HW #7's

40 yards lasered

10" circle

143 pellets

I'm gonna hunt with this gun/choke/shell combo this year.

Yes it was an odd process.. The pattern looked like a donut, they thought I needed a tighter choke so they actually made me a .550 but it didn't work.. Then they sent me every size they make and I settled on the .570... They tell me the .555 usually works in every gun but not the Crio barrels... JEBS owner Mr Jimmy told me if he couldn't get me shooting 170s in the 10" at 40" then I didn't need to buy his choke because anything less was unacceptable.. Like I said you can't beat the customer service..
I really wish Fed would get away from that FC wad..

I ordered a 560, we will see what she does. I'm just hoping for some consistency. Seems to be impossible to get 2 or 3 shots anywhere close to one another anymore.

And did you get to 170?

I think 163 was the best I got....Honestly got tired of messing it. I tried alot of different chokes other than JEBS along with all the JEBS, it was costly. I also know 2 other guys that have the same gun and were trying different chokes than me but we were trading info. One settled on a Rob ROberts .570 and the other settled with a Pure Gold .570, I think. I see a pattern with this gun, if you know what I mean.

Honestly I wish I had bought some Hevi-13 7s or Nitro 7s to try....Instead of changing loads, the other 2 guys and myself just kept trying different chokes. I will say I think the HWT 7s are the way to go in a 20ga, unless you have TSS.  The HWT 7s are devastating.

Yeah I been messing with these 20s for years now and before every seasons I find myself questioning whether it's worth it. I enjoy it but it will make you pull your hair out sometimes.

So far I've only had a chance to sight it in with 7/8 oz target loads.  I didn't bother counting but It looks promising.  Have some hevi-shot to try at some point & I'm looking for HW7s (rare around here).
