Title: How much glue
Post by: possum58 on February 19, 2016, 07:14:46 PM
I have finally finished a walnut pot from a kit from Brookside. Its slate over glass, I got Plumbers Goop, I got syringes to apply the goop. Its my first attempt of assembling a kit call.
I just don't know how much goop is preferred, go light, moderate, heavy???  Any advise will be appreciated!

I had my wife slowly spin the pots as I applied the goop via the syringe.  That helps you lay a consistent bead.  Doesn't need to be heavy, otherwise it may squeeze up around your slate.  Once you lay the bead of goop, and set your slate, take a can of soup or soda, and set that on top to help distribute the bead evenly on the pot lip.

Good luck, post a pic!

With the goop in the syringe just put a thin layer as you turn the pot as it lays flat on your work bench at the very corner of the lip where the slate sits on the shelf enough to spread half up and half across the flat at the bottom and then set your slate.  If you have any excess it will squeeze up along the slate which once it is dry you can easily remove with a razor blade.  Once it is dry take a razor blade and lay it flat on the slate and run it around the edge of the call to cut the goop and it will peel off or when you use your scotch bright to condition the slate it will come off.
