Post by: kyturkeyhunter4 on February 15, 2016, 03:51:29 PM
What do you guys think about the Star Dot choke tubes for the Mossberg 835. I've heard they put up unbelievable patterns in that gun, just won't your guys opinion on that.

I've got two of them and can say they aren't the end all choke for 835/935's. In my 835 the only load it beat out the Indian Creek was Hevi 13's 2.25 oz load of 7's. All other loads I tried the IC beat it. In my 935, the IC was better with every load tried. That said, it wasn't beat out by much. It's a good choke and if you run across one at a fair price, it's worth a try. They really don't loose value and sell quick when they do go up for sale.

I have had one of the originals on my gun for many years. It shoots around 180 or so in the ten at 40 yards with the hevi shot #6 , 2 and 1/4 ounce loads. They shoot  a nice even pattern that I like. Some fellows really like the #7 hevi shot loads but I can't comment on those. I think you can replicate those numbers with other chokes but you will pay more than what the star dot cost me.

I have the tactical turkey 835 with a 20in barrel and was always pleased with the patterns I got with a comp-n-choke, and jellyhead.  Last year I switched to the Truglo SSX shooting 3 1/2in longbeard #6's and it put to shame the other chokes I shot.  It throws an amazing pattern.
