First year hunting turkey. Recently purchased Mossberg 835. After reading several post about the old star dot tubes, it is to my understanding that Colonial made these tubes and they worked very well in the 835. I went to Colonials website and seen they offer a tube with the same .676 constricting. Does anyone know if the Colonial tube has same performance as the old star dot? Or does anyone recommend another load and choke that works well in the 835?

Primos jellyhead works great for me with just about any factory load or nitro's. But there is alot of good chokes out now. Star dot was a good choke as well.

I had a jelly head on my 835 for awhile and it patterned Hevi 7's great. Came across a greta deal on star dot on here a few years ago and started using it. I would give both the Colonial Arms and the jelly head a try.

First of all, congratulations. The Mossberg 835 is one of the better turkey guns out there. I've shot one since they were introduced and a while back got a new one with the Matthews recoil reduction system. http://allaboutshooting.com/blogs/blog/98753735-mossberg-835-with-matthews-harmonic-damper
One of the best things you can do to help the performance of that gun is to "deep clean" the bore. http://allaboutshooting.com/blogs/blog/tagged/cleaning-a-shotgun-barrel It's a very simple procedure but helps more than might be imagined.
The 2 chokes that I have found to work the best in the 835, with a variety of shells, are the SSX and the Hevi-13 turkey chokes. They both deliver dense and even patterns with no large gaps.

I have an old Stardot and recently got the colonial to do some comparisons. However I will say that my pure Gold 670 puts up better numbers then my Stardot.
Thank y'all. This has to be best group of guys on any sight out there. It's like Turkey school with all the info. I've got a lot to learn but it's nice to know there's a place to get the answers. You probably cant go wrong with the Colonial Arms. I've thought about picking one up and seeing how it does against my original Star Dot. Definitely post your results please.
