Title: NWTF Banquet, Rutledge, Archery in Schools
Post by: Drthorn on January 31, 2016, 12:07:56 AM
Had a great night tonight at our local NWTF chapter banquet.

To begin, I coach our High School Archery team and we were awarded a $450 grant from our local NWTF Chapter (Kentucky Heartland) to help fund/support our program.

Alex Rutledge was also the guest speaker and I, along with two of my archers were able to meet and greet with him all night.

And finally, I won a hat signed by Harold Knight, along with a custom, handmade box call by Owen Tomlin from KY, in which Alex Rutledge signed for me.

Overall a fun, exciting night for myself and my team.

That's awesome. I wrote a grant last year to purchase all the equipment for the school I teach at in Nashville. We plan to start in March and see how it goes.

Sounds like a great time, congrats on your win.

I'm surprised to hear that there are still schools that have an archery program. Our local school district did away with ours years ago, "too dangerous". All the equipment, bows, arrows, targets etc. are sitting in storage, unused.

I suggested resurrecting the program several times and met with strong resistance. When I realised that it just wasn't going to happen, I suggested donating the stuff so others might benefit from it. No dice. Looks like It's going to sit right where it is and eventually turn to dust. It's a shame. If more young people were exposed to "weapons", and taught to respect and handle them safely, maybe we'd have less of the madness we have in the world today.
