Thinking about a combo Missouri/Iowa turkey hunt. Any Iowa hunters here that know the procedure for a non resident hunter to hunt Spring Gobbler there? Are MO licenses sold over the counter? Is there a quota of NRs?. Bag limit? Any info is appreciated.
I believe Missouri is an OTC state, but I dont know much about their season structure, dates, limits, etc.
Pretty much anything you want to know about the Iowa NR hunting can be found at this link, and then there is a PDF to download under the "Nonresident Application Period" section.

Better hurry though, only like a week and a half left for the application period.
Iowa is a lottery system for non-residents, you cannot "apply" for 1st season, 2nd - 4th...season only and length of season varies and 4th runs for about 21 days. It may still be a deal for archery tag and get to hunt all seasons. Been a few years since I have been there but one thing to note there is NO assisting other hunters in any way unless you have an un-used valid tag and for the season it is in. Other than that I had some pretty good success there, I hunted on the northeast side of the state near the Mississippi River, lots of birds!

Really? So if you are a non-res, you just apply for a turkey tag and if you get drawn, the state just assigns you to a season?
Nope, you apply for the season you want but it is a "lottery" for you to draw a tag. Just can't get first season it is for resident only. (that season is only like 4 days) I used to apply for 4th season and always drew a tag and had 3 weeks to hunt then.

You really need to go to iowadnr.gov and view the regs. It looks like a nonres can hunt any season now. You must choose a season and a zone to hunt in. It seems NO season OR zone sold out for nonres tags last year. In any season, a nonres can only hunt or assist another hunter in the season he has a tag to hunt. Only saying, not all of the info you get online is accurate. Are you going to hunt on your own or with an outfitter?
In the past, I have talked to nonres hunters to help them a little. Jim
Thanks guys
Yes, a non-resident can choose any of the four Iowa seasons now. It was actually the second season that used to closed to non-residents, because it included the first weekend. Missouri is must easier (and cheaper), since tags are over-the-counter and good for two birds. However, you can only shoot one bird during the first week OR two birds in the last two weeks, just not on the same day. Plus, Missouri has a 1PM cutoff, which can be a pain.
Thanks all. I applied with 2 others and well see what happens.

You may need to read up on the regs, stuff has changed since I hunted there. But part of the reason I quit hunting Iowa as a non-resident. So 3 of you applied together and if you all draw tags, once one of you fill your tag that's the end of your hunt, can't go out and help a buddy get his bird... This really through me for a loop while hunting there, after I had filled my tag in season was out helping call for a buddy (that is the big No No).You can't assist in anyway, nothing, no how. Like I said might have to see if that is still on the books or not.
Have a Great Hunt! they have some bruiser birds

From Iowa DNR web page.
HELPING OTHER HUNTERS
A nonresident may assist other hunters only in the zone and season indicated on their license. The hunter doing the assisting may not carry a shotgun or bow or shoot a turkey unless he or she has a valid license and an un lled transporta- tion tag for that zone and season.

As long as you're hunting the same season and same zone, you can assist.
