I am interested in hunting Illinois for turkey. Was wondering how the public land hunting is. Not new to public land. It's all I hunt in Indiana and Michigan. Also I see that tags are split into zones. Which zone has the most public. Thanks Ryan
I am an Illinois resident. The tags are issued by county not by zone. The season is also broken into 5 seasons which are roughly 5 to 7 days long. You must send off for the drawing through the idnr website. Just click on hunting then turkey and they have quick links to most of the info you would need. The biggest pieces of public ground are in the very southern portion of Illinois. It is the Shawnee national forest. I actually hunt more out of state than in state because most other states give you more opportunities to hunt the full season all over the state versus hunting one county for one weekend. Any other questions just let me know and good luck.
Thanks for the info timber.
There is a south zone and north zone. Start dates are different.
