I put a kit call together made up of a paduk for the pot, cherry sound board and black aluminum surface. When the call is played it is not crisp and sounds like a turkey with a plugged nose. I have tried many different strikers and they all play the same. Is there anything I can do to maybe make the call sound better?
I'm not a maker or expert, but a wood soundboard would definitely not be my choice for an anodized call.
The wood might be a small part of it, but not all of it. I would say that your soundboard may be up against the side of the pot. There might be too much gap between the surface and soundboard. I know these will deaden a call the easiest.
I know the soundboard is not up against the side of the pot.
