Post by: mikeyfuzz on November 27, 2015, 02:23:25 PM
If I'm going to use only one hen decoy which is the best pose feeder, breeder, or alert?

Either a DSD upright hen or the leading hen

Alert. It can be used as a breeder too.

I like the DSD upright hen as well. It can serve as a breeder of needed.

One of the uprightish hens is easier for toms to see if there is much vegetation.  If you think about it a head/neck of a turkey is the first thing in sight coming over a hill and toms are a lot lower to the ground than we are.  Feeding hens demonstrate that "everything is ok" and there is no danger so I generally try to have both in my set up.

If they are set-up right with a natural presentation most any will work

DSD upright hen. Works especially well when the gobblers are henned up. Work on calling the hen in and the gobbler will follow. I learned this by chance and it has worked for me several times when a gobbler could care less about your calling.
The DSD Upright Hen is more visible for her to see.

DSD Upright Hen would be the first decoy I would recommend, from there it's a hard choice and depends on you as a hunter and how you hunt... I can tell you I do have several DSD's and have had great success with them.
