Started making box calls. Took a break from the trumpets for a little while. It's been a challenge. Fun and interesting. A whole different animal than the horns. Of then 20 or so calls I've started 15 would roll over and make a decent Yelp. ;D What's your success ratio when it comes to boxes?
Just finished the first. It's red cedar and maple. The second is zebrawood and poplar. And the last is zebrawood and mahogany.

Nice looking calls
Glad you finally posted these Anthony! I can attest that the handled shorty you sent me is stuffed full of turkey, extra raspy with a great rollover and yelp. Keep em coming!
Very nice!!
Looks like a great start. Glad you posted the zebra lids. I just cut four zebra lid blanks myself and wondered how they work out. Hard to say on the success ratio........I think with time you learn generally what works and what doesn't. I say your ahead of the curve starting out. Stick the ones that ain't got it away and come back to 'em some day. Once you figure out your little deal they might make a call.....Cherry anything gives me fits. Cedar's not my strong point and can be pain. I can run a good lid on about anything poplar or walnut a make a killer......About to build some butternut and holly......Best of luck.
Jeff
Thanks everyone!
Glad you liked the box Allen. I think it was #5. ;D thanks for your help getting them dialed in!
Jeff
Thanks for the info! The zebrawood I had was a little picky. But sounds great on the box it liked. I made a butternut box and could only get one side to talk. Tried a ipe lid on it a few days later and it sounded great. It's amazing how the different woods and grain direction react to one another.
Looks good! :you_rock:
