Title: Kenny Morgan's most recent book
Post by: Paladin85 on November 06, 2015, 12:48:53 PM
Have any of you read , "America, Wild Turkeys & Mongrel Dogs" by Kenny Morgan? If so, what did you think of it? Is it mainly stories or photographs? I enjoy reading his book, "Turkey Hunting: A One Man's Game" every winter before turkey season begins and wondered if this most recent book of his is similar in content/style.

Get it . You'll be glad you did. This was the first book I read of his and it lead me to buy the first book. Great read though I can't say I agree with all he said. I felt the same after reading the Henry Davis book. Still well worth reading. This man loved turkey's and turkey hunting.

It is a very good read and he has an insight to turkey behavior that is uncanny. He gives a lot of  points on situations as to field birds etc. He also gives his take hunting vs just killing turkeys. All in all a book worth reading and adding to your library.    :OGturkeyhead:

I was blessed to have had a close 36 year relationship with Kenny and I was greatly honored that he asked me to write the forward to his first book.  Many hunters will likely be offended with some of his ideas, particularly the use of decoys.  However Kenny's ideas were based on a keen scientific mind and a great love of ornithology, particularly the Wild Turkey.

I read the book from cover to cover a couple of weeks ago in preparation for a presentation at the Louisiana State Library Book Festival.  I enjoyed the reading then as much as I enjoyed proofreading the manuscript chapters he e-mailed me as he was writing the book.

He was ever the "Turkey Man" and was referred to in Southwest Mississippi and Southeast Louisiana as "The Great Ken Morgan".  Whether you agree with all of his opinions or not, you will glean some real jewels of wisdom from his words and most likely rethink some of the conceptions about turkeys that you may have.  Plus, it is a very beautiful work by his widow, Sally, that you will be proud to display for your friends and progeny.

It's a great book. I have read it 3 times. If nothing else it will cause you to think about why we do what we do.

Get it. You'll enjoy it.  I bought both from Mrs. Morgan two years ago at Nashville.  Both great books.
She's a very nice lady also.

Both books are a great read.  And as said before, the 2nd book is beautifully done and a real "showpiece" in and of itself.  A credit to his wife Sally and his life. Well worth the price.  His opinions on some things are a bit thought provoking but insightful.  He was clearly a man who studied things and formed his own opinions.  Tom Kelly is considered by many to be the "poet laureate" of our turkey hunting era ..... and it could be argued that Ken Morgan was the "philosopher laureate".  A thinking man he most surely was.......

I got Kenny Morgan's book for Christmas and couldn't put it down. The stories, hunting lore, ethics, and pictures are so compelling it became addictive. I was sad when I finished it in a few days so I started reading (again) Kenny's first book. He is a great story teller. Every turkey hunter should have his books in their collections.

I read "Turkey Hunting: A one man game" this past week. Wow- what a great read! Anyone looking to pass a few hours anxiously awaiting the start of the season, I highly recommend it.

His first book is amazing...I knew a guy who killed two turkeys in two days and missed a third two days later and credited both of them to "something" he read in that book....he told us he was going to tell us what the "something" was but never did get around to it.   ;D
