Title: New York 8 Point with Bow
Post by: njdevilsb on October 13, 2015, 08:46:07 PM
I had a great start to our New York deer season last week.

I didn't get out until the fourth day of our season.  On my first sit, I saw 5 doe and fawns, a spike and I saw the buck we had been getting pictures of all summer but he came out at last night and worked to about 50 yards away from my stand.  He didn't end up getting within range but it was past shooting hours at that point anyway by the time he finally stepped out.

Here he is a month before our season opened.

My second night out I saw 5 doe and fawns again, but no bucks.

I saw him again on my third night along with a smaller 7 point.  They both came out 40 yards to my left.  I comfortable shooting that far but it was extremely windy that night and I was freezing cold.  It wasn't worth the risk so I watched them feed out of range.

On my fourth sit, the first deer I saw was the small 7 point.  He came out and stood about 60 yards away from me just staring into the thick brush.  He stood there for about 5 minutes before I realized that he was waiting for his buddy to step out.  I spotted the bigger buck making his way through the brush and finally getting to the field.  They were about 65 yards away from me feeding towards me.  After about 15 minutes, the bigger buck made his way in front of me.  I ranged him at 36 yards, drew back and split my 30 and 40 yard pins and let the arrow fly.  The shot looked perfect and 20 minutes and 70 yards later we found him.

Here is a video I took before the shot.  Unfortunately I didn't get the shot on video.  My camera arm had come loose and was very wobbly.  I was afraid it was going to come crashing down.  Also, when this video starts, the arm was interfering with my draw so I turned it off to make sure I could make the shot.  He ended up coming perfectly in front of me where I had the camera set up for, it just didn't work out.
