Title: Barn wood pieces for taxidermy
Post by: woodshopteacher on October 03, 2015, 07:28:00 PM
I was lucky enough to harvest 2 nice Gould turkeys in Mexico in May. There are currently at the taxidermist now. I made these barn wood panels so he can mount both birds on them. The birds will sit flush on the wood on the back side, only 3/4 of the bird will be there the back wing is removed. Think hazel creek was the first to do it like this. I can't wait to get them back in December.

Got my birds back from the taxidermist. He did an awesome job. Had to modified my original barn wood pieces but they came out great.(http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160416/57b8314b12caf84bbad3ced06b49a53f.jpg) (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160416/ecd1a9a79e7560c44dc85fa84ed01a74.jpg) (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160416/5823b7a85276ff2ca847462434d44df5.jpg) (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160416/d99d1a55526d27052d11c2138c6778b5.jpg) (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160416/bace828547157eef458a50d5f93bb18a.jpg)

Nice mounts! Why did you choose this over a standard strutting on the limb pose? It can't be much of a space saver , and I bet it cost the same as the standard strutter.Just curious...

I actually had no intentions of mounting them like this at first. But last year before my hunt my wife and I drove up to port Clinton Ohio to zinks. This is were Fred zink makes his calls for waterfowl and makes avian x calls for turkeys. We were buying bases for geese decoys. In his showroom we saw a rio mounted on barn wood like this. My wife thought it was really cool. Mine you I have 2 deer, 2 other turkey mounts, and 7 duck mounts in thru out our house. Not hiding in the garage or basement like some guys. So when she liked this style I said yep that's how I'll get the Gould's done. Lol. Happy wife happy life. Just dropped my ocellated off. I have the world slam but haven't mounted a rio or Eastern yet. So far all my turkey mounts are different poses.
