Title: deer grunt calls
Post by: jed clampett on June 30, 2015, 09:00:51 PM
Looking for a new grunt tube or 2 for this years bow season. Anyone know of any good ones? It could be custom or commercial. Any success stories with any? I have had a few customs and commercial  ones an the one I had the most success with was an old primos one with a tube on it. It was a real mellow  grunt...i don't like the ones that sound like a bear farting!

Mike Yingling made me one that is awesome!! Ernie Fetters also makes a grunt/bleat call that sounds super!

I have mostly used my voice (bringing it up from your diaphragm) with good results since the 1980's
I also don't like the deep grunt sound and have had better success with doe grunt/bleats

for hunting with a sore throat, voice grunting doesn't work for me and I use an old Haydels grunter that has a tube and sounds like a younger buck

also have used a flextone soft rubber grunt tube that you can squeeze in marked places for different
pitches (fawn thru younger buck), I did put a flexible tube from an older call on it for a better sound

Try a Hawg Head by Down and Dirty Outdoors. Their haint gobble call wasn't such a hit with me but this grunt tube is outstanding. Had good success with it last fall. It is hard to over blow and has a rivit in the reed that adds a good click to the notes of the grunt.
Im always looking for a better grunt call but this one is a keeper.

I had a Hally caller by Joe Hall. That thing called in more deer than any grunters I've had. Finally after maybe 20 or so years it's not working properly.
Just bought a Yingling that sounds good and looks good but is yet untested.

Best one I've tried is a VECtor. Made by a guy named Vince Crawford (I think). Great call but a bit pricey.

The best deer grunt I have ever used is made by James Harrison--maker of the Hootin Stick. It is a quality hand made grunter that will be the last one you will ever have to buy.
