Title: Cox Blackwood
Post by: hunter22 on June 14, 2015, 06:23:34 PM
I thought I would post a couple pics that were taken a little over a year apart and show you how Blackwood tends to "age".
I am sure a lot of you knew this but I didn't. Blackwood with silver ferrule and buffalo horn mp. I can assure you it is the same trumpet in both pics.

I took a better picture. Not a question if someone thinks they are the same trumpet, I can assure you they are. Just wanting to show how Blackwood changes in time.

Same with mine Rickey. I have a blackwood I purchased second hand. The original pictures of the call show the grain real well but now it's completly black. I thought maybe it was from me handling it to much but I guess not. Still sounds sweeter than ever!

I love to watch the change that exposure to air creates in wood calls. I have a "few" trumpets and most will improve with age and exposure. I love Osage calls and have several that have gotten vivid and watched to grain just pop !!

Koa is another wood that improves with time.. neat phenomenon. Very nice caller. Frank makes one of the best trumpets..

I like it better now David. When I ordered it I was expecting it to come looking like it does now.

Rickey, I've got two of Matt McLain's ABW that have done the same thing. A smooth black finish that looks like velvet!! One has ivory and the other buffalo horn. They are pure turkey killers too!!
