Title: need some info on gobbleing before tommorow
Post by: WV TURKEY THUG on May 20, 2015, 08:43:23 PM
if a person calls in a group of longbeards 3 with a gobble call and forgot to chamber a shell but managed to rack one in the chamber only to miss at 15 yds. could you use that gobble call to call them in again or will they remember what happend last time they came to it. i know with hen calls you could just simply switch calls to sound like a different hen. but with a gobble call what do you do. not that i did this this morning or anything. figured id better ask some more experienced hunters.

First off... Bad Deal! lol

Second... Try again! They may come to hen calling tomorrow.  Never can tell about a turkey.

Can't hurt to try, start off with hen talk and see what happens..... Maybe throw in some gobbles as well, make em think they are missing out on a party.

Yeah I agree.  Get after them and give it a try.  I like the idea of mixing up some hen calling with gobbles, especially if the gobbles worked today.  It is late season and the toms might be interested in grouping back up, or just might have been figuring they better go see what had that other tom so worked up.

i threw in some hen calls with gobbling today but they only responded to gobbling they split up when i shot.  i backed out for a few hours hopeing they would be gobbling trying to get back together but not a peep. im just about half scared to use that gobble call again. as of right now my plan is to start off with some hen talk. i should have added that i used a hen call in my original post. i only did some cutting and a excited yelp. the rest was gobbling. thanks for the info so far guys hopefully you guys can help me out with a game plan i got 3 days left and this miss stupid mistake has really got me cussing myself ever since 630 or so this morning. can a gobbler tell the difference from one gobbler to another from gobbles jakes would be obvious but what about toms.

If gobbling and hen yelping doesn't work you could always try the Tony McCleb secret weapon on them---- I bet they have never seen that tactic before  :TooFunny:

If the gobbling worked today, it'll likely work tomorrow...That said, they could shut up just because, 'cause that's what turkeys do... :gobble:

Use gobbler yelping, fighting purrs and cutting. A tom makes a whole lot more sounds than just gobbles...

It sounds like you just described the gobbler catch and release system! I've got several different gobble tubes, so for me in this situation I'd just switch to another tube which would give a different sounding gobble and go right back there. Then, on the other hand, since there was no damage done to any turkey except for the loud BOOM!, I'm not sure that a turkey has the intellect to associate the loud sound with danger in brings. I do recall about 20+ years ago shooting at a gobbler, missing, and then calling a couple of toms back in the next day in the same location. Like I've often said, a turkey will do what a turkey wants to do!
