After getting wet in an early morning thunderstorm, I shot this bird at 11:45 am at my second hunt location. I was fortunate to call his lady friend uncomfortably close and he was not far behind. A true limbhanger with a 1.5" spur and a broken 1" spur. He easily hung by both spurs or just the long one. 21.8 lbs and a 10.5" beard. Metal Mouth with Bill Lyman snakewood striker and Houndstooth ghost cut did the job. And so did the Longbeard 6's.
The spur. I did not keep the legs and thighs of this bird as they were in various stages of damage from other Tom's spurs, bloody in some areas and green and oozing yellow in others.
That's a good one
Very nice bird. Congrats....
Congrats! That's a nice one
Sweet! Congratulations on a great Tom.
Congrats! Great bird
Do you think that his damaged legs could have come from yet a larger tom out there? That's a very nice bird. I'm not sure you lost much in not keeping the legs. To date, crock pot turkey leg stew is the only recipe that I've found usable for the legs. I do recall trying to eat the legs of a wild turkey after baking the bird. I think I could have driven nails with those mallets!
Congrats. Looks like a scrapper there Awesome bird mike :icon_thumright:

I don't know about a bigger bird but he sure had been taking on all that were willing. I put the legs and thighs in the slow cooker for 24 hours then let cool and make turkey salad. It's surprisingly good. I have a package of legs and thighs thawing in the sink today.
Congrats !!!
Congrats!
