Well guys, had my first miss in many, many years and boy does it suck. I misjudged distance but not by much. Bird was at about 40 but I didn't see some limbs. Luckily it appeared to be a clean miss....no feathers and the bird flew away with no trouble at all. I hate missing, and I will dwell on it until the next bird goes down.

Plenty of guys would be glad to see a bird to miss.
It happens to all of us...but really you didn't miss you hunted you call and had the chance to take a gobbler. This season has been hard on a lot of people not even hearing birds this yr.
Has been tough for me here in arkansas. Toughest in a long time
I am not glad anyone is having a tough season, but I sure understand and can share their feelings. Hunting GA in the AM. Hope it is better than FL was for me (I did kill one anyways).
Missing a bird is a heartache that is only healed by stepping on the head of the next Tom. And there WILL be a next Tom.
I missed a bird last Saturday...it was gut wrenching....but put it out of your head and get up tomorrow and go hunt like it never happened...once you kill a bird, you"ll forget about that miss.
Sorry 'bout your bad luck. I had some misfortune this spring as well. Was not pleasant to experience.
Thanks for the encouragement guys. I'm pretty OCD and a perfectionist and rarely have mishaps. I know it's part of turkey hunting but I always feel like there is no excuse.

I'm the same way Gumby. I missed a bird two years ago and I was just SICK. I went back, replayed the shot and learned from the mistake I made. It's heartbreaking but you have to put it behind you and get the next one. Good Luck with the rest of your season.
Hey man, don't worry I missed one this morning at 5 yards. I did everything wrong. Started calling while I was in a wide open plowed field. Once I got him to fire up, I was like crap I'm I'm 200 yard from the closest brush line. So I busted my bust to get over to something to hide next too. The second I get there he hit and was only 150 yards away. Just threw the decoys on the ground thinking I didn't have time to get the stakes out. Not thinking I would be so close when I would shoot, I set the decoys at 8 yard from me. Then jumped in the brush instead of setting on the edge of the field. Watch fight my jake for 15 mins because I couldn't move the gun because of the brush in between us. Once he finally move to where I could shoot he seen me move to look through the red dot and moved his head the second I pulled the trigger. So I let a second shot fly and got nothing but feathers.
Sick to my stomach
