Just wondering what app you all use when hunting. Looking for one to record coordinates, trails, etc. Thanks......
I USED TO USE A GARMEN I STILL USE THE GPS BUT THE COMPUTER THAT I ONCE HAD CRASHED AND I LOST EVERYTHING
ALL THE PLACES THAT I HUNTED I KEEPT A FILE OF THAT ARE AND WHEN I WENT BACK I JUST CLEARED THE GPS OF TOPO MAPS AND THE WAYPOINTS AND LOADED UP WHAT O NEEDED FOR WHERE IM GOING .... I HAVE A IPAD NOW AND CAN'T DO THAT ...... GOOD LUCK. :icon_thumright:
I like "Topo Maps" b/c of my familiarity with the USGS maps. You can place waypoints to mark trails and it will show you exactly where you are on the map. Personally, the only thing missing for my needs is the inability to draw property boundaries. It is cheap and you can download every quad map in the country free after app purchase, just not at the same time b/c of memory limitations.
Motion X is pretty decent. And its free. If you download the rite maps it is not dependent on cell signal I think. Good toggle back and forth with topo, aerials, ect.

You can if you draw the path on Google Earth and import it with your gps points. I'm pretty sure it's the path tool, not polygon. Works great. I use backcountry navigator on android but have used to topo maps when I had iPhone. Both of them import the same kml file. Hope this helps
I'll also add that you can trace roads using the path tool.
Thanks guys. I will check them out.......

Trying not to hijack thread but I just downloaded backcountry to my android. It is asking me to choose which source to download maps. There are many to choose from under USA. May I ask your advice on how to use this app?
+1 on Motion X.
And yes, it works without service, if you pre-load maps.
Hunt Predictor, shows maps and you can save them.
A buddy turned me on to onXhunt maps and I love it ! It has built in plat maps so you know that you are on the property you are supposed to be. It's great for gaining permission too. I have tried other apps but this is the one I like the best.

I usually use the recommended one (CalTopo) but I've used some newer US Forestry Service maps. The imagery ones suck for the most part.
There's a ton of these post throughout the year. A quick search will yield a few dozen responses.
I use a dedicated GPS. They are a lot more accurate than your phone. As far as storing important information I use a thumb drive and cloud storage. Never know when your computer will crash.
