Found this box of 10, Fed Heavyweight, 3 1/2", 12 ga. At a small roadside store. Is $26.99 a good price? I realize they are not the most desirable shot size for Heavyweight (#5), but I imagine they would be a punishing round as far as your turkey hunting ethics would allow.
I think the box was priced years ago, AND There is another box at the same store! Should I go back and buy it ?
:camohat:
They make great long range goose loads thats about it. I tried them years ago and couldnt get over 75 in a 10" out of a few different chokes. I did some research and quickly realized why. The pellet count of the #5 load is very low due to the high density of heavyweight shot. The pellet count is about equal to a 20 ga 3" #5 lead turkey load. IMO #5 heavyweight is way over kill on turkeys. That is a great price but i wouldnt bother messing with them for turkeys.Winchester Longbeards will beat that shell in #5 all day long and they are cheaper. My :z-twocents:
thats a very good price. Yes the 5 shot in heavyweight has a lower pellet count , but try them out and see how they work for you. That is the only way to tell.
Just an FYI. I tried these in my 870 supermag with a jelly head max choke tube. They were awful. Not a big fan of #5's. Just my opinion though.
Dang. Haven't stopped grinning since I got them, until now. Maybe I'll try them in a straight full choke so the FCW will stay with the shot. I guess something like that is my best hope.
Seems like a good price. And you never know, they might do very well in your gun. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
I would buy them in a heart beat
I have 5 boxes of them now, puts down anything you run across while turkey hunting
