Well this year was my younger brother Carson's last youth hunt as he turns 16 in August. We started off the morning @ my go to spot where he's had succes the last 2 youth seasons. They gobbledgood on the roost but they hit the ground basically goin silent and going the other way. So @ 8:30 we packed up and grabbed some quick breakfast and headed to a new property i just got permission to hunt. Sure enough i saw 4 jakes and a strutter from the road just across the property line.So we looped back and made a setup.I started soft with calling with no response so i amped it up with the hen box trying to get their attention.A different bird gobbled up the ridge behind and to the left of us a couple times though. So we were set up wrong for the bird that actually answered us.I set up 20 yds behind carson because that was my only option. Long story short the bird eventually came in to our bad side and strutted back and forth looking @ my decoys for a half hour.I threw the kitchen sink at him and he ate it up but he had that imaginary line he wouldnt cross. Some silent treatment followed by some fighting purrs finally brought him into carsons view and he folded him @ 38yds. Very proud of him for keeping it together the whole time that bird was toying with us and making a good shot. One of the best hunts ive been a part of.Average 2 year old gobbler 19.5lbs 8.5"beard 1/2" spurs but he put on one hell of a show.
