Title: hevi shot choke
Post by: rosharb on April 20, 2015, 10:39:08 AM
I have a .662 tube for my 3 in.  Rem 870. Was wondering if this tube would be good for Win. long Beard. Didn't know if the three rings inside the tube would affect the pattern or be damaged.

Won't hurt a thing.  Those rings are to strip the wad from the shot column. Only shell that'll have a problem with that choke is the Federals loaded with flight control wads.

Appreciate that..I was getting ready to let some Fed HW fly through my .662. Is the 20 guage Hevi 13 choke different? Myself and others are shooting the Fed HW 7's through that choke with amazing results.

I believe the wad in the 20 gauge shells are a softer composition therefore making them more forgiving.
A lot of people are shooting the 20ga Feds through Indian Creeks and Sumtoys with no problem and they have rings as well.

Good news..thanks! That is great set up I was hoping to not have to back off of that one. Good luck in the turkey woods!

Another thing to consider is the new unported Hevi tubes do Not have the three rings inside of them. The constructions on them are a little tighter as well, numerically

I picked up a Carlson dead coyote non ported tube pretty cheap. Will have to try it with the longbeards also.

My rem 870 21" bbl is patterning the Hevi 13 choke really well with Win 3" LB 6's. Unfortunately I cant get it to pattern very well with any of the Hevi 13 shells thus far. Haven't tried the 7's out of this gun. It will shoot good patterns to 35 yds with HV 3" 6's. The rest of the Win 3" lead loads didn't shoot well.

Have you tried the Mag Blends thru that combo??  My 21" barreled 11-87 throws a wicked 40 yard pattern with them.

Yea, I shot the mag blends, Hevi 13  3/2/6's and all the Win Pb 3" 6's. This barrel probably needs to be polished to get it to perform. Win LB 6's is the only good pattern I can get at 40. Gonna give the 3/2/7's a run and see what they will do. They may be the answer.
